Anambra Rival Communities; Aguleri & Umuleri at It Again, Resume Hostility in New Clash...See Details
A renewed clash between Aguleri and
Umuleri communities in Anambra East Local Government Area has been
recorded as two persons were reportedly injured on Friday.
Some years after restoration of peace,

Aguleri and Umuleri communities in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports
that a residential building was also torched in the conflict while one
person was shot in the leg and another reportedly inflicted with machete
injuries.
Our correspondent also reports that it was not clear from which of the divides the victims came from.
But the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Samuel Okaula, said his command has restored calm in the area.
A source, who pleaded anonymity, said a joint task force of the army, police and civil defence had been deployed to the area.
Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Umuleri, Igwe Benneth Emeka, denied any killing.
According to the monarch, security operatives responded on time in quelling the clash.
The two neighbouring communities have had intractable conflict over land for more than a century.
In 1999, scores of people were killed while properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed in the area.
Leaders of the communities with the help
of Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra, who hails from Aguleri, have embraced
peace and conflict resolution mechanisms to resolve the crisis.

Police officers in France were set on
fire by Molotov cocktails in central Paris today as thousands took to
the streets to protest against government labour reform.
According to The Sun UK, at least five
were seriously injured around Place de la Republique, where a march
ended just before 5pm.
CRS riot police initially used tear gas and baton charges to try and restore order, and then came under heavy attack themselves.
An eyewitness said: “Molotov cocktails are landing right on top of them. Police are getting badly hurt.”
Anarchists and other radicals wearing
black hoodies and face masks could be seen throwing the improvised
bombs, together with bricks and metal bars.
“We’re here to fight back against a corrupt government,” said Florent Gilbert, a 19-year-old student who had gathered with a group of around 100 agitators.
“The police are trying to clear the streets, but we have every right to show those in power what we think of them.”
As the violence intensified, acts of vandalism took place everywhere, as bus stops and shop fronts were attacked.
There were similar scenes in other
French cities, including Nantes and Lyon during the latest round of
protests against controversial reforms.
They were passed last summer with the aim of liberalising the employment market, making it easier for bosses to hire and fire.
But opponents say they are an attack on hard-won worker rights, all of which are now in peril.

are graphic photos of five farmers killed by unknown gunmen believed to
be herdsmen at Share, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government
Area of Kwara State. Confirming the attack, the State Police Public
Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, said the dead, who are from Tsaragi,
were killed by suspected herdsmen while working on a farm at Share.He dismissed any link of Share people in the attack, adding that the two communities have been living together in peace with the constant presence of security personnel.
He confirmed that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing and assured that the police will soon get to the root of the matter.
Mr Okasanmi further noted that the state government has declared a curfew in the two communities to guard against the breakdown of law and order.
Police Arrest 3 Secondary School Students For Faking Their Kidnap In Enugu
The
Police in Enugu State have revealed that they have arrested three
secondary school students for allegedly faking kidnapping within the
Enugu metropolis.The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Enugu.
Amaraizu said that the students of Enugu-based secondary school had demanded a ransom of N500, 000.
He said that the police through its Anti-Kidnapping Unit had begun investigation to unravel the circumstances behind the alleged faking of the kidnap incident.
The police spokesman said;
“It was gathered that on July 11, one Nebeife Nnamdi aged about 17 years, who is a Senior Secondary School (SSS) – 3 student of an Enugu-based secondary school, had been allegedly abducted by gunmen.
“Later, there was a demand of N500,000 ransom from his alleged abductors.“Following the development, the operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit swung into action.
“The Anti-Kidnapping Unit through intelligence information nabbed Ene Chigozie Steven, Okafor Okechukwu and Nebeife Nnamdi, who is said to have been kidnapped, on July 14 at about 2:30 p.m., at their hideout at Trans-Ekulu within Enugu metropolis.
“They have revealed that the alleged kidnap was faked by them to collect money from the alleged kidnapped victim’s father and are currently regretting their evil action,’’
He said the suspects had been helping the police in their investigation
American Man Sent To Kirikiri Prison In Lagos For Defrauding Nigerians
An Ikeja High Court on Thursday remanded an American citizen, Marco Ramirez, at Kirikiri Maximum Prison for allegedly defrauding three Nigerians in a $565,000 green card and investment scam. .
Mr.
Ramirez was remanded following his not-guilty plea to a 16-count charge
of obtaining money under false presences. He was arraigned by the EFCC.

The
EFCC prosecutor, V. O. Aigboje, alleged that the accused, managing
director of three companies – USA Now Plc., Eagleford Instalodge Group
and USA Now Capital Group – committed the offences between February 2013
and August 2013. .
Mr.
Aigboje said Mr. Ramirez fraudulently received $545,000 from Godson
Echejue to invest in his company, Eagleford Instalodge Group, in order
to procure an American green card (residence permit) for him (Echejue). .
He
also allegedly received $10,000 from Abubakar Umar through a
non-existent investment programme in the U.S., which was billed to make
Mr. Umar eligible to obtain an American passport. .
The
EFCC also accused Mr. Ramirez of illegally receiving $10,000 from one
Olukayode Sodimu under the pretext that the funds were facilitation fees
with the American Immigration Services for an American green card. .
After
Mr. Ramirez took his plea, Mr. Aigboje requested that he be taken from
the custody of EFCC to prison custody. “There are no bed spaces
available in the commission. I apply that the defendant be remanded in
prison custody,” she said. .
Chukwudi
Maduka, the defence counsel, in his submission, requested that Mr.
Ramirez be kept in the custody of EFCC and not in the custody of the
Nigerian Prison Service. .
Justice
Josephine Oyefeso, however, rejected Mr. Maduka’s request and ordered
that Mr. Ramirez be remanded in prison. “The proper place for remand is
prison custody and I so order. The case is, hereby, adjourned to July 3
for hearing of the defendant’s bail application,” she said.
Notorious Armed Robber Terrorizing People in Katsina Finally Caught
A deadly armed robber who has been attacking people in Katsina state has finally been nabbed by men of the Nigerian police.
Police in Katsina State have arrested a
notorious armed robber, Muhammad Bello, 25, a.k.a ‘Kiri Gorare
Namushoda.’ The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Gambo
Isa, said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Katsina on
Thursday.
He said the robber was arrested
following a tip-off three days ago. He said Bello had led an armed
robbery operation five days ago where the group shot dead one motorist
and injured several passengers on Dustinma – Danmusa road.
The police spokesman further said that
the thief told the police that his accomplices were Haroun Anchau,
Mushoda Bakin-ranji, Gabudeji Namushoda, Dikko Garhin-Dustinma and Ali
Iraqi, all at large.
He said that police were making efforts to arrest the suspects and recover their weapons.
He, therefore, urged the public to
assist the police with information on the whereabouts of the hoodlums
and other criminals operating in the state.

I Bought Gun To Fight Fulani Herdsmen -- Man Arrested With Firearms In Kwara. (Photo)
The police in Kwara State have paraded a
suspect, Mr. Odobaba Babatunde, on charges of possession of firearms,
but he claimed to have bought the locally made gun from a blacksmith in
readiness for any possible attack on his community by Fulani herdsmen.
Speaking after being paraded by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Mr. Olusola Amore in Ilorin, Babatunde alleged that Fulani herdsmen had wreaked havoc in his community over the years and he could no longer watch his people die cheaply.
Babatunde said, “Our community and Fulani herdsmen have been having clashes for a long time. A blacksmith made the gun for me. I got the gun so that I can protect myself against herdsmen attacks.
But since I bought the gun, there have been no attacks.”
The police said the suspect was nabbed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad operatives of Kwara State Police Command while on a patrol along Eruku/Omu-Aran Road on Monday at about 5.20pm.
Amore said when a search was conducted on the suspect, a locally-made pistol with two live cartridges was found on him.
Amore said the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigation.

An unidentified teenage girl’s body has been found at Henshaw Town primary school, Egerton, Calabar South, Cross River State. An eyesight that has left the minds of the pupils of the school questionable. According to reports, the girl was found on Friday 14th July, 2017 morning”.

A man has shocked police officers after walking into a police station to talk about how he killed his own mother.
A South African man shocked people when
he walked into a Sunnyside police station shortly before midnight on
Wednesday and told officers that an evil spirit had ordered him to kill
his mother.
"They found the body of [the] suspect's mother lying in a pool of blood," he said.
"It is suspected that the deceased
died from multiples stab wounds that were inflicted with a knife that
was recovered from the scene."
Mavimbela said the suspect, 31, walked into the police station late on Wednesday.
"[He] informed the police that he had been ordered by an evil spirit to kill his own mother, 57."
The suspect was set to be charged with murder and would then appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court.

A crocodile reportedly returned a
missing man in its jaws after a witch doctor claimed he summoned it to
return the body. The missing man, identified as Syarifuddin, 41, was
bathing in a river with friends when the beast pounced and dragged him
beneath the water in Berau, Indonesia, on Tuesday at 6.20pm.
Desperate relatives reportedly searched
in vain for him and it was assumed that he had been taken into the
depths of the Lempake River when police failed to find him.
Villagers contacted a local black magic
wizard who specialises in ‘crocodile witch craft’ and it’s claimed they
cast a spell for Syarifuddin to be brought back alive. Incredibly, his
body is said to have emerged yesterday morning.
The predator is purportedly seen
floating to the banks with the naked body of Syarifuddin in its jaws as
the gathered crowd looks on, in video footage from the scene
It then dropped off the corpse sparking
suggestions the saltwater crocodile, which can grow up to 5.2m as an
adult, had actually been guarding the victim’s body from other predators
seeing as it hadn’t been eaten.
Local resident, Eet, said there was a
local myth that anyone bathing with clothes on in the river would be
fine – but bathing naked would result in a crocodile attack.
Syarifuddin was found dead and had injuries to his ribs on the right side of his body.

A 12-year-old girl from Bangladesh is
suffering a very rare and painful skin condition that makes her skin
grow like the bark of a tree.
Muktamoni’s upper body, the right side
mainly, is turning brown and hardening to resemble a tree. Reports have
it that the upper part of her body has the tree-man disease.
The right side of the child’s chest has stretched down to her hand and has become large and discolored.
The hand which is infested with
parasitic warms appears to be growing and curling up at the end. She
suffers incredible pain in the affected arm and, coupled with the fact
that the hand curls at the end, she is unable to do anything with the
hand.
Doctors say that the disease has spread
through her entire body. She is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka
Medical College Hospital. Her father, Ibrahim said it all started as a
small boil on her right hand few years back then it spread.
He said to India Today:
“There was a small boil in Mukta’s right hand three years ago which gradually spread to the entire arm and resulted in the swelling of the arm making it look like a tangled tree. From the hand, it is now moving towards her body slowly. In the last nine years, I have got her treated at different places. Seeing no progress, I have come to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. I beg blessings from all for my daughter’s recovery.”
Mukta was admitted at the Burn and
Plastic Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Tuesday where a team
of eight doctors has been formed for Mukta’s treatment. Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina has already taken the responsibility of Mukta’s treatment.

Mrs Vivian Ezechila, wife a Redeemed
Christian Church of God pastor who recently lost her husband and two
sons after a container fell on their vehicle while coming back from the
monthly Holy Ghost service of the church has lamented her loss.
In an interview with Punch, the bereaved
Vivian who lost her husband and two children in the disaster questioned
the Christian stereotype that when a man dies, he has ended his race on
earth.
She noted that even if that could be said of her husband, the death of her two sons is unfathomable.
The 49-year-old while narrating her
recollections of the sad event said when asked how she got to know of
the accident that claimed the lives of her loved ones:
“My pastor called me on Saturday, July
8, around 7am. He said, “Where are you, Sister Vivian?” I told him I was
at home. He then asked me who among my children accompanied my husband
to the Redemption Camp. I told him two of my children— Peculiar, 12, and
Chibuike, 14. I asked him if all was well. He said yes. After the call,
I was disturbed because anytime my husband went to the camp; he usually
came back home around 5 or 6am. I had been calling his number but it
was not going through.
“I called my daughter that I was not
comfortable with the questions our pastor asked me on the telephone. I
asked her to call our church member in Ojota to know if my husband and
two children were in Ojota. The fellow told us there was an accident at
Ojota. We then asked who was involved. He said my husband, my two sons
with some other church members — one old woman and our neighbour’s
child, Daniel.
“On hearing this, my daughter started
crying. I tried to console her. We had just woken up from sleep. A
family friend went to Ojota Bus Stop and saw the wreckage. We were told
that a truck conveying a container fell on their bus. The fellow was
there when they brought the crane to lift the container off the damaged
bus my husband, our two children and others were travelling in.
Going further, the mother of four recalls her last conversation with her late husband.
“I called my husband around 11 or 12pm
on Friday. He was at the camp. I told him that because of the Badoo
killings in Ikorodu, he should not come home very early as he usually
did. I asked him to stay around till 5 or 6am before leaving the camp.
He asked me if there was any riot in any place. I said no. He said I
should forget about the cult matter and not entertain any fear. He
assured me that since he was coming from a church of God, there was
nothing to worry about. I was told he left the camp around 3am. That was
the last discussion I had with him.
Speaking on the numbers of children she had, she said:
“Four. Two died while two are still alive. The surviving ones are Victoria and Emmanuel, who is in the university.
When asked if the redeemed church had
reached out to her, she responded in the affirmative. However, noting
that the death of her two sons can not be justified.
“Yes, they have. They came in large
numbers, telling me not to be weary. They said he had finished his race.
I asked them, “What about my two young children who died? Have they
finished their race too just like that?”
We had reported that 5 people were
killed after a fully loaded container fell on a commercial bus in Ojota
area of Lagos. Three people have been rescued from the wreckage by Lagos
State Emergency Management Agency officials which occurred on early
Saturday, July 8.

bail and eloping with his mistress to United States, who eventually
dumped him after his Visa was revoked (facilitated by his wife), it has
been revealed that the estranged husband was able to travel to the
United States with forged divorce papers.

who pleaded anonymity, and damning revelations were bared. According to
the family source, John’s Visa was revoked after project Alert wrote to
the American Embassy on behalf of Ivie Edobor, attaching the case file
and other documents to back it up. Ivie’s family reportedly became
suspicious when John, who was dragged to court in a domestic abuse
lawsuit stopped showing up in court since March.
we also gathered that John has moved from the apartment he was staying, and the number he was using in US has been disengaged.
When asked if they will go on with the
lawsuit to get justice, when John is deported to Nigeria even with his
public apology, the family source said;

A young graduate has died a really tragic death at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, after a wrong diagnosis.
Controversy has arisen over the death of
a 29-year-old graduate of the University of Bauchi, Kolawole Idowu, at
the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
Family members of the victim said
although Kolawole died at LASUTH, they believed his condition was
worsened by doctors at the Ikeja Medical Centre, a private facility on
Allen Avenue, Ikeja.
Punch Metro gathered that Kolawole, who concluded his youth service in Lagos sometime in April, took ill a few days afterwards.
He was reported to have complained of
“teary eyes and body pains” and had gone to the Ikeja Medical Centre,
which was the family hospital. It was gathered that like other children
of the family, he was born at the hospital.
After a doctor allegedly recommended
some malaria drugs and later an eye drop, the situation was said to have
worsened, leading to his admission to the hospital.
Our correspondent was told that the hospital later said he was manifesting signs of a mental illness and began treating him for “psychosis.”
When there was no improvement, the
hospital was said to have referred him to LASUTH, where he went into a
coma and later died at the Intensive Care Unit.
The victim’s brother, Kunle, told Punch
Metro that his late brother’s medical condition was not handled properly
at the medical centre, adding that he was given some injections which
affected his health.
Kunle alleged that the injections made
him to misbehave, saying anytime the effect of the injections wore off,
he would regain his senses, run back home and beg to be taken away from
the hospital.
He explained that when he (Kunle)
observed that their maternal grandparents were adamant on keeping him
(Kolawole) at the hospital, he challenged them and broke some property
in the house, which led to his arrest and detention.
He said, “The illness started at the
end of April, about a week after his youth service. I am a politician
and I was running a campaign to become a councillor at that period. Kola
complained that he had been having burning sensations all over his body
and his eyes had been teary. I advised him to go for a lab test, but he
said he would go to our family hospital. He went to the hospital where
he was given an eye drop, which he started reacting adversely to.
“He went back to the medical centre
and he was told that he had malaria. The doctor prescribed a malaria
drug for him. However, he started reacting negatively again to the drug.
That was when the doctor said he was having fits of delirium and
showing signs of dementia.”
He explained that the doctor insisted on
admitting Kolawole, but he objected, adding that the grandparents
believed the doctor and supported the move.
On the first week of his admission,
Kunle said he was not satisfied with his brother’s treatment, but the
hospital assured him that Kolawole needed rest.

They are torn between two worlds. Being
of the Igbo stock, their soul is in the Southeast, but their bodies and
homes are in Benue State, in the Northcentral. That is not all. In
Benue, where they are quartered, more for political considerations than
for cultural reaons, they lament their lack: no roads, no water, hardly
any sign of modern life.
They are Igbos of the Ezza, Izzi and
Effium stock. Their kith and kin are in other parts of the Southeast,
particularly Ebonyi State. They claim they are not fewer than one
million scattered in four local governments of Benue State. And for
close to 50 years since they were excised from their kinsmen, they have
been living primitive lives.
Their pathetic plight is that the
authorities in Benue, from the state to the local governments, have not
seen them as part of the state ostensibly because they speak Igbo. On
the other hand, the Ebonyi State government where they should have
rightly belonged is helpless as they are not under its area of
administration and authority.
The people allege that since their
inclusion into Benue State they have not felt any government presence.
None of their people were considered for employment in any of the two
tiers of government. Indeed, in their lamentation, they are not in the
scheme of things as far as government business is concerned in Benue.
“We have been on our own. No roads, no
water, no electricity, no employment. We just wander about to help
ourselves in our own way,” an octogenarian, Pa Nwankwo Aloh said,
clutching a bucket in search of water.

UNILORIN graduate says he went into kidnapping to raise money for Dubai trip
The police in Niger State have arrested two persons allegedly responsible for the kidnap of students of the
Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna.
Police spokesman Bala Elkana said the suspects were responsible for the kidnap of three FUT Minna students. He added that the police is on the trail of two others who are on the run.
It was learnt the suspects – Abraham Jatto, (30) from Edo State, and Idowu Mafe, (29) from Ogun State, have been on the police’ wanted list.
Mafe, who claimed to be a graduate of the University of Ilorin, regretted his action, saying it was the quest to make money that led him into it.
He said: “When the issue of getting a Dubai job came up, my parents could not afford the N750,000 demanded from us, and Abraham raised the issue of kidnapping which led us to this predicament.
I have dragged my family’s name in mud. I am well-brought up but I can’t factor what led me to this act. I pray my parents will forgive me.” Jatto confessed that they rented a two-bedroom apartment behind the trade fair complex to keep their victims.
